Halo: A Smart Shaver That Learns Your Face

Designed by ALEX TUNA BASER, Halo Combines Technology and Grooming for a Personalized Experience

In a world where smart technology is increasingly integrated into everyday objects, ALEX TUNA BASER has introduced Halo, a smart shaver that learns the user's face for an optimized shaving experience. This innovative design, which won the Silver A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2017, combines functionality and technology to redefine grooming.

Most grooming devices are left in common areas, raising concerns about shared use. Halo addresses this issue with a fingerprint scanner lock, ensuring that only the owner can use it. The interaction is smooth and intuitive: place a finger on the scanner, and the shaver greets the user, offering a shave or a trim.

What sets Halo apart is its ability to learn the user's face. Equipped with gyroscopic positioning sensors on the head of the shaver, every corner and edge of the face is scanned and recorded. After a few uses, the shaver adapts to provide the best shave, much like a personal barber. It adjusts its head rotation and blade force accordingly, eliminating the struggle often associated with shaving. Halo also doubles as a precise trimmer. Users can select the desired length, and the head adjusts automatically.

The design of Halo is as impressive as its functionality. The lower body of the shaver is made of black anodized stainless steel, while the top part is high-quality, soft-touch plastic. This combination gives the shaver a solid feel without being too heavy. The device is equipped with inductive charging technology, further enhancing its convenience and modern appeal.

Halo's design process took place between August and November 2016 in Milan, Italy. The inspiration came from the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing integration of smart devices into everyday life. The project aimed to bring this trend into the realm of grooming, a daily routine for many people. The result is a product that bridges the gap between wellness, beauty, and technology.

Despite the challenges associated with manufacturing such a device, including considerations for battery performance due to inductive charging and maintaining a minimal overall weight and size, Halo has the potential to be produced for the mass market. This innovative design is a testament to the possibilities of smart technology and its potential to transform everyday tasks into personalized experiences.
